Can I still claim travel to inspect my rental?

A friend says he claims his trips to check on his rental. I thought that stopped years ago?

For most individuals with residential rentals, travel hasn't been deductible since 1 July 2017.

There are exceptions, like carrying on a rental business, but they're narrow. Your friend should check with his accountant.

The ATO has been reviewing rental claims more closely, so it's not one to guess on.
